I found out that there are some people that haven't seen Iron Man 3 yet, that actually care about seeing it. So, with that in mind, this article will contain spoilers for the movie if you haven't for some reason seen it yet, but actually love comic book movies enough to read about them on the internet.
Ben Kingsley recently revealed that he has been working on a secret project for Marvel:
It’s a secret Marvel project. I’m not allowed to say any more, you’re going to have to wait and see,” he said. I was with many members of the crew that were involved in Iron Man 3. It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family,” he continued. I think they have enormous taste as creative artists. There’s nothing lazy or gratuitous about their work. They are at the top of their game, and they’re great company to keep.
With the actor already having a character in the Marvel Universe, most speculation was that Kingsley would be working on one of the companies famous 'Marvel One Shot' films that appear as extras on DVD releases. The Agent Carter One Shot on the Iron Man 3 DVD is the most recent example. Kevin Feige has said the One Shots will not be a consistent thing, but something they do when they have a great idea, which is where the news from Latino Review gets interesting. Supposedly, they have the details.
Now, I say supposedly, because their sources are not mine, so I have no way of confirming. But they do have an ok record with their rumors, something-something about score, and the rumor does make sense.
Apparently, Marvel knows deep down that what they did with the Mandarin character in Iron Man 3 was straight up BUMJUICE! The movie lost me at the reveal and I fell asleep shortly afterwards. According to sources, Marvel wants to make it up to fans so in the one shot, the REAL Mandarin is furious with Aldrich Killian and Ben Kingsley’s character Trevor Slattery for the mockery they made of the real Mandarin’s identity and legacy. The real Mandarin wants to set the record straight.
Yes, the REAL Mandarin.
How is he going to set the record straight? That I don’t know. Who is going to play the real Mandarin? Don’t know either. Wait and see.
Since the story broke, Iron Man 3 writer, Drew Pearce has said the news is false, but Latino Review writer El Mayimbe doubled down, tweeting "I don't care what Drew Pearce says because guess what? He is not the writer on the Marvel One Shot short film".
So there you have it, make of it what you will. I like the idea and it might make some fans disappointed in the Mandarin's portrayal content. If true, I'm interested in seeing how well they tie up the drama of ruining a legacy that apparently no one had heard of enough to worry about pissing him off.
