It looks like DC Comics will continue its streak, currently at 32 days, of not doing anything stupid as Sandman: Overture writer Neil Gaiman has taken the blame for the two month delay on issue #2, reported yesterday, with the following statement:
I understand your disappointment and sympathise. [J.H. Williams III and I are] both really sorry about the delay. It’s unprofessional, and is mostly due to the giant signing tour I was on from June, and me not getting script written on the tour, with knock-on effects. We’re hoping it’ll be the only delay though.
Gaiman went on to explain that he originally intended to do only a short tour, but was mistaken by a publicist for Anne Rice and ended up on a second signing tour for Rice's latest book, The Wolf Gift. The annoucement validates The Outhouse's decision to hold off on resetting the Has DC Done Something Stupid Today counter, since the delay was outside of DC's control, as even DC wouldn't have the balls to mess with Gaiman, considered the best writer in the world by anyone who doesn't normally read books without pictures.
So, Gaiman is back on track, J.H. Williams gets a reprieve because, let's face it, he was probably late too, and DC gets to continue the longest streak of non-stupidity in the history of the Didio era.
