Outhouse staffers rejoiced a few weeks ago when Marvel announced the end of Wolverine and the X-Men, a book that singlehandedly brought the X-Men franchise to its knees with mediocre humor, nonsensical stupid plotlines and a undercurrent of hypocrisy that would make the Republican Party proud. Of course, like every book Marvel cancels nowadays, it's back, and it looks to be as crappy as ever.
Wolverine and the X-Men #1 will be written by Jason Latour, with art by Mahmud Asrar. The book will introduce expert murderer Fantomex as the school's newest teacher, and will focus on the Jean Grey School's summer semester, and the characters of Quentin Quire, Idie and Evan (Kid Apocalypse) in particular.
More importantly, it seems that Jason Aaron has passed on his Cyclops hate boner to Latour, who dropped a few choice quotes about the Outhouse staff favorite in an interview with IGN:
In regards to Wolverine's lack of healing factor and how it impacts his running of the school:
But now Logan is mortal and for the first time he’s being forced to take stock of what he’s built. He’s realizing that what he saw as a school could, in the wrong hands, become a factory for the next Cyclops or Dark Phoenix or Apocalypse or Weapon X. That though people like Storm are ready and willing to take the mantle, he’s not sure that he wants to subject them to the price of that duty.
So, Cyclops is now the greatest villain the X-Men have ever had. (Cue the 'But Cyclops admitted he was a villain in a crappy epilogue comic that no one read!') Oh, and here's a quote about Fantomex joining the faculty.
One of Logan’s greatest fears is leaving his school in the hands of men like Cyclops. Fantomex is a man who sees the world in grey, who understands what it means to be raised a weapon. As violent has he’s been, he’s shown again and again that he does know its cost. That stands in stark contrast to Cyclops and the puritanical fervor of Xavier’s dream turned toxic.
Yeesh. I guess that X-Reunion isn't going to happen anytime soon. Anyways, if you want to read a book founded on the sole principle of "Cyclops is bad, Yay, Wolverine!", Wolverine and the X-Men launches in March 2014.
