After some confusion about Space Dandy's USA debut, Funimation (the company that will bring it the USA on home video) has confirmed that the anime will indeed start airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami block on January 4th, 2014 at 11:30pm.
For those of you who might have missed the earlier news, Space Dandy is Shinichiro Watanabe's (Cowboy Bebop) return to science-fiction anime, this time with a much more overt comedy bent. In addition to Watanabe, a whole lot of talent is involved with this series, including animation studio BONES with a main theme by Yasuyuki Okamura. Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop) will also contribute to the music and Kunio Okawara (Gundam), Niθ, Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira), and Katsuya Terada will also have some involvement. In the USA, Dandy will be voiced by Ian Sinclair. QT will be voiced by Alison Viktorin and Meow by Joel McDonald.
In Japan, there will also be a manga appearing in the magazine Young Gangan. The manga will be by Masafumi Harada and start with a 60 page chapter on December 20.
The official synopis for the series reads:
Space Dandy is a dandy in space! This dreamy adventurer with a to-die-for pompadour travels across the galaxy in search of aliens no one has ever laid eyes on. Each new species he discovers earns him a hefty reward, but this dandy has to be quick on his feet because it’s first come – first served! Accompanied by his sidekicks, a rundown robot named QT and Meow the cat-looking space alien, Dandy bravely explores unknown worlds inhabited by a variety of aliens. Join the best dressed alien hunter in all of space and time as he embarks on an adventure that ends at the edge of the universe!
