He's not known for his villainous roles, but he certainly has the acting chops for it. Hugh Jackman is now in discussions with Warner Bros. to play Blackbeard the pirate in their Peter Pan origin movie: Pan after Javier Bardem passed on the role.
The origin story revolves around an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates. The idea is that Blackbeard is the film’s main antagonist while Hook would serve as Pan’s close ally before turning bad.
The studio plans to have an open casting for the role of Peter Pan in hopes if discovering new talent. No final word yet on what actor will play Hook.
