We've been covering Matt Kindt's invasion of the comic industry over the last year, chronicling his gradual takeovers of Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Valiant. However, with this week's announcement that Charles Soule will be writing Marvel's Inhuman series, there appears to be a new contender to the title of "Conquerer of the Comic Industry".
Over the last year, Soule has taken on a number of increasingly high profile projects, including Superman/Wonder Woman and Swamp Thing over at DC and Thunderbolts over at Marvel. Next year, he'll be adding at least two more books to his resume with Inhuman and She-Hulk. Including his ongoing Letter 44 project, it looks like Soule will be writing seven ongoing titles at once in 2014, threatening Kindt's clutch on the industry.
We've compiled a brief flowchat detailing Soule's career progression thus far.
While Soule could not be reached for comment, we were able to obtain an email he sent out to the various creative teams on his various books:
Pencillers, Colorists and Letterers of the Soule Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of comics loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the Kindt war machine, the elimination of Kindt tyranny over the oppressed peoples of the comic industry, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.
But this is the year 2014! Much has happened since the Kindt triumphs of 2013. The editorial regimes have inflicted upon Kindt great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our online offensive has seriously reduced their strength online and their capacity to wage war in the comic stores. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained comic reading men and women. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
Kindt declined to comment for this article, citing his need to rally his horde and prepare his troops for battle.
We'll continue to cover the impending Soule/Kindt war in Europe as more details occur.
