Veteran actor Bill Paxton will be hanging out with Agent Coulson and the stoic bunch for a bit in the second half of season one.
TV Guide just broke the news that Bill Paxton will be joining the cast of Agents of SHIELD for a multiple-episode run, playing Agent John Garrett.
When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.
Whedon said they wanted to bring in Paxton to contrast Coulson:
We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.
In the comics, John Garrett becomes a cyborg to save his life, whether or not Paxton's character will follow suit remains to be seen. Whedon and Co. are definitely pulling out all the stops for the second half of season one, with no word yet on whether or not the show will be picked up for a second season.
