Over at Newsarama, producer (and current head of DC Animation) James Tucker discussed the future of DC animated movies. Some may like what he has to say, while others may be rolling their eyes at it. Regardless, there will be an ongoing storyline of New 52 animated movies as started off by The Flashpoint Paradox and continued in the soon to be released Justice League: War and beyond. That's not to say that they will stop adapting stories not based in the New 52, as shown with the recent trailer to Son of Batman. Tucker even names several "dream" projects: "Gotham by Gaslight," "Red Son," "Long Halloween," and "Kingdom Come," before going on to say how the last one is almost impossible to adapt due to Alex Ross's unique art style. Of course, this reporter can't help but scream to the empty air around him: "WHAT ABOUT "SINESTRO CORPS WAR" YOU FOOLS?!!!!!!!"
So what will be the next New 52 movie teased you might ask? Well, spoiler alert for the ending teaser to Justice League: War below!
The epilogue deals with the aftermath of the movie, in particular the ocean, which has been ravaged with dead fish before a vessel emerges from the water. Not soon after, Ocean Master, cradling the body of his father, the King of Atlantis and proclaiming: "The Surface Dwellers have killed our king. This is an act of war. And they will pay."
So "Throne of Atlantis" adaption anyone? Of course, we know that sometime next year DC Animation will have an Aquaman centric movie. Is THIS that movie? Or will 2015 be the year of Aquaman with TWO animated movies focusing on the character? Justice League: War hits DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital February 4.
