Ben Affleck To Start Filming for 'Batman vs Superman' Right Away

The release date may have been delayed, but production is still moving ahead on schedule.

Deadline is reporting that shooting on The Middle Man, a new Fox produced show whose pilot was to be helmed by Ben Affleck, has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts.  Even though the release date for Batman vs. Superman has been pushed back to 2016, shooting is going ahead on schedule and Affleck is due to report in for filming.

Though the release delay was first thought to be due to a leg or rib injury Affleck picked up, he appeared at the SAG awards walking under his own power, if a bit gingerly.  In the end, his injury was minor, they could simply use a stunt-man for any action for a few weeks, and the delay was based on a variety of other factors.

Speculation on the delay seems to be that a combination of getting the growing movie in order combined with the desire to film the movie back-to-back with Justice League are the main factors.  Really any delay knocking it out of the July 2015 window would cause it to be bumped into 2016.  If it missed a July release, August through November is not a great release window for a mega-blockbuster.  Christmas is the next best option, but they would go up against Hunger Games 3 and Star Wars: Episode VII.  After Christmas, late winter and spring aren't great release windows either for a movie Warner Bros. needs to open huge, which brings us to May 2016 - the beginning of summer movie season.  So chances are it was a minor delay that turned into ten months due to picking the best release window.

The new release date for the Man of Steel sequel is May 6th, 2016.  The best news is with production going forward, it may put a stop to the deluge of rumors around this movie and at least give us a look at the entire cast and new costumes involved.  Many expect we may get a look at Affleck's new Batman costume within the next few months.
