Source: Disney Reviving 'Chip 'n Dale' for a Live-Action Feature (Exclusive)
It's being reported on the Hollywood streets that a revival of the late-1980s afternoon Disney cartoon Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, is in the works. The revival is being said to take the form of a hybrid live-action and computer graphics (aka. Garfield, Smurfs) theatrical movie. Robert Rugan is being pegged as director, with Mandeville Films/TV producing (Mandeville also backed the recent The Muppets movie). Little is known about the film but it appears to be a prequel to the television series:
"It is from Rescue Rangers that the new project would spring as it tells an origin story of sorts."
1988's Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers took the chimpunk pair who first appeared in 1943 and reimagined them as tiny gumshoes running their own detective agency. They were joined by mice Monterey Jack and Gadget Hackwrench and housefly Zipper to solve crimes that slip through the cracks. Their arch-enemies were a mob-lord like cat named Fat Cat and Professor Norton Nimnul.
The Rescue Rangers recently appeared in a Boom! Studios comic series (ended 2011) and a 2010 mobile game "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers". No release date has been has been announced yet for this movie.
