Scott Snyder shocked literally dozens of people on the internet who hadn't already figured it out months ago when he revealed the identity of the new Nightwing in a DC All Access video:
For those unwilling or unable to view the video, NuWing has been revealed to be Comics Alliance columnist Chris Sims. Sims appears to have been working out for his new role as a fictional illustrated character, having slimmed down his waistline a bit and grown a pair of perky breasts.
The decision to put Sims under the mask was apparently made based solely on the fact that Sims posted a photo of himself in 2011 with a hairstyle that perfectly matched the concept art for the new Nigthwing revealed in December.
Some fans were expecting the new Nightwing to be Harper Row, a female Tim Drake who appears once every thirteen months or so in the Batbooks and may or may not have been created because DC refused to allow Snyder to use Cassandra Cain. But those fans can suck it, because it's totally Sims.
How Sims came to take over Dick Grayson's superhero identity should be revealed in tomorrow's Batman #28 by Snyder, James Tynion IV, Dustin Nguyen, and Derek Fridolfs, a special "flash forward" issue in which it will also be revealed that Jack must somehow coax the other survivors onto the same trans-Pacific flight so that they can return to the island and fulfill their destiny. To capitalize on the publicity of having one of their senior writers featured prominently in a DC comic book, Comics Alliance reportedly plans to publish a story on it several hours or perhaps even days after every other site already has, citing "not giving a fuck about the stupid 24 hour comics news cycle and focusing on journalism instead" as the chief reason for waiting so long.
