Source: Fox's 'Batman' prequel casts Jada Pinkett Smith as...
Gotham added yet another rogue to its gallery, this time by casting Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, an original character exclusive to the series (as revealed by Entertainment Weekly). With this original character thrown into the mix with a bunch of long standing ones (Sarah Essen, Oswald Cobblepot, Barbara Gordon, Harvey Bullock, Alfred Pennyworth, and James Gordon), a bit of spice is added to the lineup, making it not just a teen drama version of the Batman mythos, but instead a teen drama version of the Batman mythos with Jada Pinkett Smith. This is also not the first time we've heard the name "Fish Mooney": a few weeks agom when Robin Lord Taylor was cast as Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin), the name Fish Mooney was name-dropped as the boss Oswald would be answering too.
Mooney shares some characteristics that might remind folks of the future Penguin as she's described as cruel mob boss who moonlights as a nightclub owner (an eventual Iceberg Lounge possibly?). EW also describes Mooney as "hotheaded", "imposing", having "street smarts", and having "almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book". We describe Fish Mooney as a particularly ridiculous name, even for a comic book villain.
Stay tuned for more Gotham news, pre-teen readers!
