Assuming they were going to use Hamill, Fisher and Ford, then it would kind of need to be set a few decades ahead.
StarWars.com has confirmed that Episode VII will take place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and that the movie will feature a "trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces."
I'm guessing that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are the familiar faces and given that they are much older than they were in RotJ, I don't think the thirty year gap gives any spoilers away.
Other than filming beginning in May, no other information is currently available. Disney's BoB Iger has only confirmed R2-D2 for casting so far, everything else we're getting will stay in the rumor category until more is announced.
Star Wars Episode VII is due in theaters December 18th, 2015.
