80 Year Old Man Excited for New Cullen Bunn Shadow Series From Dynamite

The youngest living fan of pulp heroes is overjoyed to learn that the Sixth Gun and Fearless Defenders scribe will take on one of his favorite characters.

Here at The Outhouse, there are two things we love above all else: recurring jokes, and genetically engineered super-writer Cullen Bunn. So when Dynamite Entertainment sent us a press release announcing a new Shadow series by Bunn, we were really psyched, because it means we get to consult one of our favorite news analysts, 80 year old Stanley Moore of Los Angeles, CA, the youngest living fan of the pulp heroes Dynamite is always publishing. What's this all about?

In The Shadow #0, secrets of the Shadow's past are revealed as he meets Houdini! The Shadow infiltrates sanctum of an esoteric society of murderous magicians who are hellbent on escaping the ultimate trap--death itself! In order to thwart their plans, though, he must evade twisted traps and solve spellbinding puzzles. A good--or evil--magician never reveals his secrets... but the Shadow knows.

Oh man! Stanley is gonna love this! The Shadow and Houdini in the same comic! It'll be like it's 1935 all over again... well, if you don't count the fact that Houdini died in 1927, years before The Shadow's original radio series ever hit the airwaves. But even still, Stanley's memory isn't all that great nowadays, so he's probably forgotten all about that. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's see how Cullen Bunn came to be involved in this:

"I've long been a fan of pulp heroes, and the Shadow was my introduction into that world," says writer Cullen Bunn. "I remember my dad recounting adventures of The Shadow he had heard on the radio as a boy. And my dad could do the best imitation of the Shadow's laugh! I like to think that he'd get a real kick out of me contributing to the legacy of the character. I know I couldn't be more thrilled. In this tale, we see the Shadow infiltrating a secret society of magicians who are willing to do anything to lay claim to what might be the most forbidden of secrets. As the Shadow evades devious deathtraps, we learn that he has a connection to the greatest magician of all time."

Pretty rad! We're... wait a minute. Did Bunn just say, "I've long been a fan of pulp heroes?" We'd better tell Stanley. Let's ring him up on his Jitterbug cell phone.

"Hello?!" shouted a confused Stanley. His voice sounded distant, and we guessed that he was probably speaking into the earpiece of his phone. "Come in! The door's unlocked."

Oh, Stanley. You're on the phone. It's The Outhouse again, and we've got some bad news, and some good news.

"There are no good jews!" Stanley interjected. "They're all a bunch of..."

Whoa, Stanley! We know that you're "from a different time" and all that, but we can't let you say that kind of thing on The Outhouse. We'll get in trouble.

"Damn right they are," he agreed.

*sigh*

Listen, Stanley, we didn't call you up to talk about politics. We just learned that Dynamite is putting out a new Shadow series, with Harry Houdini as a guest star!

"The Shadow! He's a great friend of mine!" Stanley blurted out.

No, Stanley, The Shadow is a fictional character. You know, from the comic books?

"Oh, right," said Stanley. "That's great news!"

Well, there's something else. The book is being written by Cullen Bunn, and, well... Bunn says that he's a fan of pulp heroes. That means that Cullen Bunn, not you, is now the youngest living fan of pulp heroes.

"What?" Stanley asked, stunned.

You've been replaced.

"My hips? They've both been replaced. Along with my knees, and my teeth, and..."

We cut him off before he could delve into his second favorite topic after pulp heroes, the menagerie of prescription medications he takes and the various ailments they're meant to treat.

"So this Bunn fellow... he's younger than me? What is he, in his seventies?" Stanley wondered.

No, Stanley, he's... well we don't know old he is. In his early thirties maybe? He's bald, but he's got kind of a babyface. We're gonna go with somewhere between the ages of 19 and 45.

"So you don't know for sure."

Well, no, but...

"He could be older than me."

We don't think...

"He could be a vampire, or some kind of dark wizard. Maybe he covers himself in the blood of slain infants at night to absorb their youthful life essence and preserve his decaying, centuries-old body."

Ok, now that's just...

"Is Cullen Bunn the product of a post-WW2 super-science experiment? How does he write so many great books? It's not natural?"

Well, now that you mention it...

"I fought against those Nazi bastards in the war! You sick sons of bitches!"

Okay! Okay! Alright, Stanley. We won't replace you. Honestly, Cullen Bunn has better things to do than talk to us anyway. You can still be our analyst for all things pulp heroes, okay?

"Thank you."

But no more craziness, okay? You have to focus. Stay on topic. No more antiquated racist rants or anything like that that makes us have to end the article early, okay? You have to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.

"You got it. I promise."

Great. We're really pleased this story had a happy ending.

"Happy endings?! That's a great idea! I know an Oriental girl at the massage parlor that will..."

Are you trying to get us #CancelColberted?!? Shut it down! Roll the press release!!!
