FUNimation Entertainment and Cartoon Network announced this evening that Japanese anime phenomenon Attack On Titan will air on Toonami in May.
The anime series that spawned a hundred internet memes and is known for it's rather gruesome depiction of violence has already "aired" for international audiences on the websites Crunchyroll, Funimation and via Netflix but they were streamed in Japanese with English subtitles. Toonami's broadcast will feature an English dub.
Attack on Titan (or Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese) started off as a manga (comic) and was adapted into an anime 4 years later in 2013. The story takes place in a land dominated by giant humanoid creatures called Titans who have wiped out much of the human race. A small band of humanity manages to survived in a city surrounded by giant walls, until one day that wall is breached. The populace retreats to a deeper walled off portion of the city, and the story centers on three childhood friends who join the military force to oppose the Titans.
Attack on Titan premieres on Toonami on May 3, 2014 at 11:30pm ET.
