Here's some more on the unfortunate ongoing situation involving X-Men director Bryan Singer and the sexual abuse allegations. Fox, the studio behind the X-Men franchise, issued a statement today after the press conference that took place today. From The Wrap:
“These are serious allegations, and they will be resolved in the appropriate forum,” a Fox representative said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “This is a personal matter, which Bryan Singer and his representatives are addressing separately.”
In addition, Deadline reports that Singer has canceled a planned appearance at WonderCon this weekend to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past, which comes out May 23. Deadline reasons that an attempt to promote the movie by Singer at the convention would be overshadowed by the controversy. Producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg will appear at Wonder Con in Singer's stead. In addition, ABC announced that they would not be using Singer's name to promote Black Box, a new series executive produced by Singer.
Singer's lawyer denied the accusations when they first broke, calling them "completely without merit," but Singer's camp has yet to respond to the press conference.
The entire affair is shocking, and we don't really know what to think, so we'll just continue to report on the facts.
