The cast for Jon Chu's Jem and the Holograms has been announced via the movie's tumblr blog:
Are you ready to meet the band? Introducing Our Holograms:
Jem - Aubrey Peeples
Kimber - Stefanie Scott
Aja - Hayley Kiyoko
Shana - Aurora Perrineau
When I started covering this movie last month, it didn't occur to me that I was in for an entire movie development cycle's worth of doing things like posting cast images from it, but here we are:
Fan reaction was about what you would expect from Tumblr. "OMG!!" said one enthusiastic reblogger, with another adding, "AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
The film stirred up some controversy a few weeks ago when Christy Marx, who basically created all of the characters and wrote a ton of the episodes (I'm not going to argue specifics with you people - she's the creator, IMO), was excluded from any involvement in the film. The film has been updated to make Jem a Justin Bieber-esque YouTube star. Taken together, that doesn't give me a lot of faith that this is going to be any good. We'll see, I guess.
