Marvel released a trailer for their upcoming super-mega-crossover event Original Sin today to websites who play nice, and it quickly sparked controversy as everyone who viewed it admitted that they prefer the trailer to the flailing ABC television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Despite the trailer consisting of crudely animated comic panels, viewers said that it featured more of what they were looking for from a live action Marvel property than the show does, noting that the cheaply photoshopped special effects are far superior to those on S.H.I.E.L.D.
"This is what Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. should have been," declared fanboy Angus MacStickenbutt after watching the trailer. "Lots of Marvel comics characters appearing. Believable storylines. Likable characters. A deep-voiced guy doing a dramatic voiceover. Angela's boobs. What more could you ask for?"
"My favorite part is that it's always the same trailer," MacStickenbutt continued. "With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you never know. Most of the time it's a rerun because the show is on a confusingly-scheduled three week hiatus in between new episodes, but sometimes it isn't. I want consistency when I watch my comics-based TV shows."
Given the choice, MacStickenbutt said that he would watch the trailer over and over again rather than watch new episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he's not alone, if the continuously sliding ratings for the show are any indication.
"Yeah, I guess we screwed up," said Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada when learning of the reaction. "All that money we spent on a TV budget and we could have just had an unpaid intern spend five minutes making a glorified animated gif and called it a day."
Quesada said that he was considering replacing the S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners with one of his interns, though he admitted that the interns might not have the same highly valued qualifications as the currently team. After all, none of Marvel's interns are currently the brother of Joss Whedon or the wife of the brother of Joss Whedon. But Marvel is working on rectifying that.
"They tell me, Vlad, marry into Whedon family, and you can have high paying big shot TV job," said Marvel's chief unpaid trailer intern, Vlad Kozinkerov. "So that is what I do."
Kozinkerov is expected to wed Joss Whedon's third cousin twice removed, Ludmilla Alexeeva Whedon, in a lavish ceremony in their homeland next month. "I am very happy," Kozinkerov told The Outhouse. "Ludmilla has strong, child-bearing hips and barely any mustache. She is very comely for Russian woman."
According to sources inside Marvel, top company executives are debating pulling the trailer before it causes any more damage to the S.H.I.E.L.D. brand. Before it gets erased from the internet, check out the trailer below and tell us what you think.
