It looks like Mark Waid agrees with former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice on DC's latest super-mega-crossover event, Future's End. Commenting on the series on Twitter, Waid riled fellow creator Dan Jurgens when he called the series "The New 52est New 52 comic E-V-E-R-." Enjoy:
Wow. Only the FCBD and 1st issue in and, already, FUTURES END is the New 52est "New 52" comic E-V-E-R. Wow.

@MarkWaid Thanks, Mark! @brianazzarello, @JeffLemire, @PatrickZircher and the rest of the team really appreciate the compliment!
— Dan Jurgens (@djjurgens) May 6, 2014
@djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire @PatrickZircher You're welcome, though it was neither a compliment nor a jibe. Simply an observation.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
@MarkWaid @brianazzarello @JeffLemire @PatrickZircher Oh, I know exactly what it was.
— Dan Jurgens (@djjurgens) May 6, 2014
@djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire @PatrickZircher I'll rephrase: if you believe it was a criticism of the talent involved, you misread.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
Looks like Waid may be training for the next summer Olympics, as he has a terrific backstroke. Comics' only journalist and bony saltwater fish Tom Spurgeon soon joined the fray:
@MarkWaid @djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire @PatrickZircher and if it were, i'm sure you've all done things the others haven't liked
— Tom Spurgeon (@comicsreporter) May 6, 2014
Patrick Zircher didn't know what to think:
@djjurgens @MarkWaid @brianazzarello @JeffLemire We love you, Mark. Now go away.
— Patch Zircher (@PatrickZircher) May 6, 2014
@djjurgens @MarkWaid @brianazzarello @JeffLemire Oh, wait. Was Mark saying something nice?
— Patch Zircher (@PatrickZircher) May 6, 2014
@MarkWaid (reads kind of snarky, kind of very snarky)
— Patch Zircher (@PatrickZircher) May 6, 2014
Waid tried to clear things up as vaguely as possible:
@PatrickZircher @djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire Mark was observing how it's a distillation of all things 52. Could be a compliment.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
But it's no secret Waid isn't a fan of the New 52:
@ArnoKikoo @tbalena @djjurgens You're reading in. New 52 books aren't written for me, nor should they be. I'm not the audience. That's FINE.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
@NYR248 @PatrickZircher @djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire That's up to you to decide. If you like New 52, you'll dig this, I predict.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
So Waid doesnt like something? Big deal, right? Wrong! You must never say anything negative about a comic book on the internet. It's the Thumper rule.
@MarkWaid @PatrickZircher @djjurgens @brianazzarello @JeffLemire and if it's NOT a compliment, why take a shot at your colleagues like that?
— NYR248 (@NYR248) May 6, 2014
It kind of petered out after that... OR DID IT?!
Wow. Only one bite in and, already, this plum I'm eating is the plum-iest plum E-V-E-R. Wow.
— Mark Waid (@MarkWaid) May 6, 2014
Here we go again...
It will be interesting to see how this ends up. Normally, it's Stephen Wacker getting into a flamewar, with Waid coming in to protect his little buddy. Will Wacker jump in and have Waid's back now? We'll keep you updated if this flares back up.
