Bitter Fanboys Enter Dark Horse Contest To Spite Geek Girls

Bitter Fanboys Enter Dark Horse Contest To Spite Geek Girls

In order to win a grand, all these fanboys have to do is what they do all day every day; spout out obscure facts about science fiction.

Via email, and then their website because the email was rather useless, Dark Horse Comics announced a contest in which the winner would receive $1,000, or 5 Original Sin variants whichever is cheaper (hint, it’s the $1000.) And what do well adjusted readers have to do in order to win said grand:

Mike Richardson, Dark Horse founder and writer of the Eisner-nominated 47 Ronin and Star Wars: Crimson Empire, teams with artist Bruce Zick (Mandala, Thor) to take readers on a fun new thrill ride laden with pop culture and science fiction references!

For one savvy reader who can catch the subtle nods contained within this original graphic novel, Mike Richardson is offering a $1,000 cash prize! Not only that, but he’ll also award the local comic shop of your choice $1,000 worth of Dark Horse comics and graphic novels!

That’s right; to win $1,000 all you have to do is be the annoying little shits you already are. Seems pretty cut and dry, that was until a certain faction of the comic book community took this contest as an opportunity to “take our hobby back!” What began as a mom’s basement roots movement has evolved into a well-organized force of nature known as “No (hot) Girls Allowed” or “NhGO” for short.

We here at The Outhouse, the world’s most dysfunctional sausage fest, we spoke to one of NhGO’s leaders, LactoseKills:

The Outhouse: Thank you LactoseKills for joining us.

LactoseKills: Happy to be here, and I am glad to see your website had the foresight to send a man to interview me. I’m not sure I could have handled being questioned about geek culture with some woman.

OH: Be that as it may, what exactly is the purpose of your organization?

LK: It’s very simple; we are sick and tired of all of these fake geek girls coming into our hobby and wanting to be treated as actual people, let alone equals. For generations comic books, sci-fi, and RPGs have been dominated by the bullied, the lonely, the virgins, and the acne impaired, and now, all of the sudden, over the past decade pretty girls have begun to take an interest and we are not standing for it anymore!

OH: How does the Dark Horse contest enter into your plans?

LK: We here at NhGO are determined to guarantee that a man, preferably a fat, sweat pants in public wearing, 35 year old who would use the money on something important like this sweet Gentle Giant Studios Deadpool Statue for only $799.99, rather than whatever girls spend their money on, probably shoes or make-up or other such nonsense. We are determined to let these girls know that they are not welcomed nor are they good enough to be true fanboys.

That is not to say that NhGO is the only group of fanboys vying to win Dark Horse’s money. Another collection of sad sacks has joined forces in order to impress the same population NhGO is protesting…without the “h” requirement. Collectively known as BCBC (Beggars Can’t Be Choosers) this club is convinced that if just one of their members wins at least one girl will let said winner touch their “soft bits.”

One such BCBCer was heard to say that “…there is no way [any girl] would be able to resist me once I show my mental superiority by winning $1,000 by naming references in a comic book. Good bye extended stay hotels, hello girlfriend!”

It would be funny if it weren’t so sad.

We reached out to known girl, RobinsGotLegs for comment:

It was really nice to go to the comic book store yesterday to pick up The Atomic Legion. I was able to find other books I’d heard a lot about like Saga and Fables. I’m also excited for this contest. Some of my friends and I are planning on meeting up for cosmos tonight to go over the comic to see what we can figure out. We are not set on winning, but it will be fun to try.

When asked what she would spend her cut on, RobinsGotLegs responded with “probably shoes or make-up or other such nonsense.”

Here’s the press release.

About the Author - GHERU

RU, or as he’s known in the writers’ room: the cute one, is relatively unappreciated in his time.  RU’s YouTube show, RUviews is watched by literally multiple people every month and his Outhouse articles have helped line many a bird cage.  Before you send RU a message, he knows that there are misspelled words in this article, and probably in this bio he was asked to write.  RU wants everyone to know that after 25+ years of collecting he still loves comic books and can’t believe how seriously fanboys take them.  RU lives in Akron Ohio (unfortunately) with WIFE, ‘lilRuRu, and the @DogGodThor.  You can also find him on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, & even Google+ (if anyone still uses that).
