Nikki Finke, ousted Deadline mogul, delivered the following scoop on Twitter today:
I hear Alfonso Cuaron ('Gravity', 'HP/Azkaban') deep in talks to direct JK Rowling's Harry Potter spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts'. Perfect pick.— Nikki Finke (@NikkiFinke) May 19, 2014
Alfonso Cuaron was the director of the third Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Rumor has it Warner Bros. is planning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as a three movie trilogy, since they've been struggling to replace the Potter films with an equally viable franchise. The movie is based on a book of the same name that was released to benefit the charity Comic Relief, along with a companion book called Quidditch Through the Ages. Both books purported to be the textbooks used by students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
Stay tuned to The Outhouse for rumors of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and yet another version of Batman appearing in the film.
