When people in the comic industry ask "Who's the black private dick that's a sex machine to all the chicks?" most industry insiders will respond "Dick's a bit of a strong word, but Rob Guillory, I guess."
But now, that's all about to change. Dynamite has announced that it has obtained the publishing rights to Shaft, the popular detective who spawned the blaxploitation movement of the 1970's. The publishing rights includes not only the rights to create new comics and graphic novels, but also the reprint rights to seven prose novels written by Shaft creator Ernest Tidyman. Dynamite stated that it would announce further plans for prose and graphic novel comics at a later time.
In a press release, Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci stated that "John Shaft is an American Icon, with feature films starring Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson. Shaft has resonated in popular culture because he's such a cool, compelling mother --"
SHUT YOUR MOUTH.
"But I'm talkin' about Shaft," retorted Barrucci.
Oh...then we can dig it.
