Variety is reporting that director Scott Derrickson is close to signing a deal with Marvel Studios to direct Dr. Strange. Derrickson was previously the director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Day the Earth Stood Still (the terrible Keanu Reeves remake, not the classic version) and has screenwriter credits on several horror films.
Marvel seems ready to ramp up production on the Dr. Strange movie, which is a good thing since Ant-Man is a giant, flaming ball of fail that still can't find a director to replace Edgar Wright. Here's to hoping Derrickson doesn't work on Dr. Strange for six years and then abruptly leave when Marvel takes out all of the obscure pop culture references out of his script.
