Disney and Lucasfilms have announced that Josh Trank will direct a stand alone Star Wars film. Trank is best known for directing Chronicle, and is currently directing the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. In a press release, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said:
[Kennedy] is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.
While no other details about the film were provided, it's believed the movie will focus on a family of space-faring explorers, each of whom have a unique power gained via cosmic radiation exposure.
Josh Trank's fantastic Star Wars spinoff will come out eventually. We'll have more details when someone decides to say something.
