Back in May, Hasbro applied for the trademark "Transformers: Robots in Disguise". Some Transformers fans wondered if Hasbro might be reviving the old toyline of the same name or re-release the cartoon, both based on the year 2000 Japanese anime and toys Transformers: Car Robots. A week or so later the Hub Network revealed that they were working on a new Transformers cartoon for 2015. Now, it looks like Hasbro is using their trademark for this new cartoon, Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
So, not a revival of the old brand; not the IDW comic of same name currently in print; but a new cartoon. That won't be confusing at all. The new show will take place years after the the "Transformers Prime" animated series, and will feature a redesigned Bumblebee (surprise!) voiced by Will Friedle, leading a rogue team of Autobots against a new faction of Decepticons threatening the Earth. Other featured characters will be Sideswipe (Darren Criss), and Fixit (Mitchell Whitfeld). A Dinobot is also said to be part of this cast. The Autobots are described as capable, but not used to working as a team and it's up to Bumblebee to unite them.
Look for Transformers: Robots in Disguise (the new cartoon and likely a new toyline (hopefully the current comic series will still be around too) Spring 2015.
