Which of Our LA Readers Will Deface the Bob Kane "Walk of Fame" Star By Writing Bill Finger's Name On It?
In an article on sardonic comic book website The Outhouse today, blogger Jude Terror in no way instructed readers to visit Hollywood's famous Walk of Fame and and engage in illegal vandalization by writing Batman co-creator Bill Finger's name on the star that will soon be awarded to fellow Batman co-creator Bob Kane. Back in the day, Kane signed a legal agreement with DC Comics forcing them to forever credit him as the sole creator of Batman, despite the fact that it's pretty clear to everyone that Finger did most of the work. It's for that reason that Terror believes that readers of The Outhouse, completely of their own volition and with the full understanding that they are not doing so on behalf of The Outhouse, might be interested in taking matters into their own hands and giving Finger the credit he deserves by writing his name on Bob Kane's star, which will be added to the walk as part of the class of 2015.
Kane is one of two posthumous editions in the class of thirty, the other being hard-boiled author Raymond Chandler. Amongst the living honorees are Simpsons producer James L. Brooks, Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, and Italian composer Ennio Morricone. As far as The Outhouse is aware, none of the co-workers or partners of any of these other stars died in obscurity while being denied credit for their rightful work. No, not even Jim Parsons.
Athena Finger recently revealed that she was planning to seek co-creator credit for her grandfather in celebration of Batman's 75th Anniversary this year, and DC Comics even put Finger's name on the cover of a special reprint of Detective Comics #27, in which Batman first appeared in 1939. But while DC's hands may be tied by a contract, there is nothing stopping any of our readers within driving distance of Hollywood Boulevard from heading over there once Kane's star is added and engaging in some vigilante justice, fittingly, just like Batman himself.
Asked whether The Outhouse had any plans to produce stickers reading "Co-Created by Bill Finger" for readers to purchase in bulk and stick on every copy of a Batman comic in their local comic shop, Terror had no comment.
