If you don't remember Shane Black, he was the guy that directed a little movie called Iron Man 3 that did pretty well last year. That means Hollywood is wondering what he will do next to make them some sweet sweet cash. Just what will his next movie be? Actually, looks like it could just be a Predator reboot according to the source THR, or another movie he is working on called The Nice Guys, but somewhere in the future Sony is still wanting their hit with Doc Savage.
Black thinks that finding the right man for the role will be a challenge:
Here’s the problem: They kind of gotta be tall. He’s the perfect physical specimen and when people look at him, they’re overawed by the sort of symmetry and perfection that he exudes. I don’t know that you could use like James McAvoy as Doc Savage. You couldn’t do it. He’s a fine actor, but we need someone big. Back in the day Schwarzenegger was talked about to play Doc Savage. I don’t know who we’d get.
Although they still haven't cast anyone officially for the bronze skinned pulp hero, Black has met with an actor that has already had experience playing a god on screen: Chris Hemsworth.
I for one find it hard to believe Hollywood would cast someone based solely on appearance, but will Hemsworth want to be typecast in another beefcake role? He was already hesitant to go topless in Thor 2, will the actor be willing to show the goods again to play another hero? The movie is already under budget concerns as it is and it's only in concept stages, so they might not be able to tempt the actor with a big payday.
As I can attest Chris, it's not easy being sexy. Stay strong my brother.
