Source: The force is strong in this one! Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, 21, to play young Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII
In Star Wars news today, it's being reported that Billie Catherine Lourd will be taking on the role of Princess Leia Organa. Note that it is Harrison Ford (Han Solo) who broke his foot, so why is the actress for Princess Leia being replaced? And can she fit in with her twin brother, the… uhm… *slightly* older… Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill)?
It was reported that the original cast was returning for Star Wars VII Well, it turns out that actor Billie Lourd will not be replacing her mother Carrie Fisher (OG Princess Leia). So a decoy like Queen Amidala had, because that probably wouldn't work either? No. Billie Lourd will be playing a young Princess Leia in flashback scenes for the movie.
Okay that makes some sense. Star Wars VII director J.J. Abrams, no stranger to casting younger versions of established characters, chose Lourd to play Leia because of the visual similarities. He also calmed fan fears by saying "She will even have her hair tied up in Princess Leia-style buns".
Well, that's a relief. The next question is, which version will the Disney Store merchandise be based on? Also, will this just be the old gang sitting around a table talking about the old days?
We'll find out on December 18, 2015! (assuming it does not get pushed back)
