In Latest Insult, Scottish Saltire Invasion Nominated for

As the referendum on Scottish independence looms, a British comic awards committee spitefully nominates Scotland's first Superhero for a British award category.

On September 18th, the Scottish people will vote in a referendum deciding whether or not Scotland should become an independent country, but that hasn't stopped staunch UK imperialists at the True Believers Comic Awards, formerly known as the Eagle Awards, from nominating seminal Scottish superhero Saltire's acclaimed graphic novel debut, Saltire Invasion, for the "Favourite British Comic" category. Citing grievances dating back to the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 13th and 14th centuries, TBCA representatives taunted Scottish nationalists with the nomination, which puts Saltire in a category with infamously British books such as 2000AD.

The insult isn't sitting well with Scottish independence supporters, who took to their feral goat powered lawnmowers this weekend to carve a retaliatory message into a hillside in Banffshire, which we're assured by sources is the real name of a real place.

Scottish comic book readers respond to Salitre Invasion's insulting nomination.

"We fin' th' nomination o' Saltire Invasion tae be a huge insult tae th' scots fowk 'n' tae th' movement fur Scots independence. Saltire is a oor country tradition in th' vein o' oor country treasures lik' haggis 'n' vast public drunkenness, 'n' we dinnae support this decision in ony wey," said publisher Diamondsteel Comics in a press release addressing the controversy. "Th' bogged limey tossers behind th' Eagle Awards, or th' Wi' Stoatin Power Comes Stoatin Responsibility Awards, or whitevur th' bugger they're cawin thaim noo hae issued a skelp o'er th' bearded coupon o' Scotsmen aw weys, 'n' we dinnae intend tae tak' this insult sittin` doon, mostly fur if we dae, we wid need tae keep oor legs crossed sae that oor baws 'n' shafts ur nae exposed tae th' world oot o' th' bahookie o' oor kilts."

Personally we're hoping Saltire wins, not just because it's a great comic, but also because it'll be a pivotal moment for Scottish Independence, like when the English soldiers killed Mel Gibson's wife in Braveheart, the official movie of Scotland. We'll keep you updated on these developments. The True Believers Comics Award winners will be announced at London Film and Comic Con in July. A Saltire Invasion Sequel is scheduled to be published in September, coinciding with the independence vote and its ensuing bloodbath.
