In Case You Missed It: Avengers NOW!

This Avengers Initiative starts… LATER!

Source: Marvel's 'Avengers NOW!': Captain America is black, Thor is female, Iron Man has a new suit

Thor will be a female starting this October! Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America this November! Tony Stark takes over the West also in November! All of these changes happening at around the same time are not a coincidence but part of a plan… a plan that readers may have overlooked as it was lumped in with the Iron Man announcement this morning… a plan called Avengers NOW!

The Avengers trinity will all go through these changes and debut new #1 titles. Thor: God of Thunder will reboot to Thor (Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman); Sam Wilson will be the new Captain America in All-New Captain America (Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen); and Tony Stark will have all new iRon Man armor in Superior Iron Man (Tom Taylor and Yildiray Çinar), but that's not all!

Like the Marvel NOW! initiative, the promotion for Avengers NOW! gives readers hints of what characters will be prominent through the next year. Here's the image given EXCLUSIVELY to Entertainment Weekly (then posted on Marvel's site sans watermark):

In the image you can see the characters of the three series that were announced recently in their new guises. You can also see a pair of Inhumans (Medusa and Inferno), a pair of magic users (Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange), a pair with guns (Winter Soldier and Deathlok), and a pair of A's (Angela and Ant-Man). Some of these characters also have series that were announced this year (Deathlok and Winter Soldier) and most of the others are part of currently running series (Medusa and Inferno in Inhuman; Scarlet Witch in Uncanny Avengers; Angela in Guardians of the Galaxy). Could some of these characters be seeing new solo titles? New team titles? Axel Alonso (Marvel's Editor-In-Chief) has said that there is "a writer" for a Doctor Strange related project, so there's one possibility. Also Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man all will be new to film in the next few years, and perhaps we'll be seeing some of the others in theaters as well.

So there's your first taste of the near future of Marvel and into 2015. Now if there was only an event, possibly featuring comics, towards the end of July that might spotlight more information on this. This reporter is sure we'll find out more information from Marvel SOON!
