San Diego Comic-Con has long been used by various corporations to debut and promote products. Movies, television, comics, and toys have all been unveiled to the public by companies hoping to endear themselves to the all-important nerd demographic. This year, however, a company is using Comic-Con to promote a different sort of product: weapons of war.
Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, is debuting a tank like weapon at this year's SDCC, presumably to show off to the many high ranking military officials that will be attending the event. The vehicle, which measures in at over twelve feet tall and modeled after a toy from the 1980s, fires disk like objects from a sixteen foot cannon. Curiously, the weapon, which Pizza Hut has dubbed "the Pizza Launcher", will have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles paint scheme, presumably to help associate the soon to be released movie with mass destruction and loss of life.
While Pizza Hut hasn't revealed the weapon's range or rate of fire, the company is planning a live demonstration at Comic-Con, probably hoping to attract lucrative military contracts that could earn the company billions of dollars in additional revenue. If successful, Yum! allegedly is planning to bring their other brands into the weapons' business. Taco Bell could easily be converted into a chemical weapons maker, and KFC's breaded chicken could possibly be incorporated into armor designs.
