New Bat-Book or: Ben Templesmith Drawing Some Other Comic Instead Of “Fell” Again

The problem with over saturation is that the seemingly good ideas get lost in the…of, FFS, not another new Bat-book!

Source: Exclusive: DC Comics announces horror series Gotham by Midnight

As you may know if you read other comic books sites that actually get emails from DC (and have very sore knees, but that is unrelated), there is, yet another, new Gotham comic book series coming out this fall, Gotham by Midnight, by Ray Fawkes and Ben Templesmith. From Blastr:

Gotham City is getting even darker in November, as Ray Fawkes and Ben Templesmith explore Gotham by Midnight. The new series will focus on Jim Corrigan (aka the host of the Spectre) and deal with the supernatural and horror in DC Comics’ already darkest city.

Yip-freaking-yee, another bat-book….hey, wait a sec, Templesmith? Fawkes? Intriguing.

…the series will spin-off from Batman Eternal, where Corrigan has been teaming up with Batwing in the literal Gotham Underground. Fawkes has been the primary writer on that storyline, as well as exploring DC’s supernatural side in Constantine. Templesmith is known for his horror art, including 30 Days of Night and his current written/drawn series The Squidder.

There’s a lot more to read about this book anywhere else, and it all sounds pretty awesome, but I am too distracted by the Templesmith art to write it out. All I’ll say is this, of all the new Bat/Gotham books to be announced recently, this is the only one that really grabbed my attention. Basically, DC, GET RID OF ALL YOUR SHIT BOOKS – we know (no matter how much we pick on you) that you can make good comics. How about you do more of this and less of….whatever it is you are doing with Superman.

The series will have horror, but still be a “police and detective” series. He said that he’s drawing inspiration from both True Detective and the works of Lovecraft to mix the elements needed for Gotham by Midnight.

Epic.

Gotham by Midnight launches November 26, 2014

RU, or as he’s known in the writers’ room: the cute one, is relatively unappreciated in his time.  RU’s YouTube show, RUviews is watched by literally multiple people every month and his Outhouse articles have helped line many a bird cage.  Before you send RU a message, he knows that there are misspelled words in this article, and probably in this bio he was asked to write.  RU wants everyone to know that after 25+ years of collecting he still loves comic books and can’t believe how seriously fanboys take them.  RU lives in Akron Ohio (unfortunately) with WIFE, ‘lilRuRu, and the @DogGodThor.  You can also find him on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, & even Google+ (if anyone still uses that).
