Source: James Gunn On Guardians Of The Galaxy's Secrets
*Note there are Guardians of the Galaxy spoilers in this article, if you did not see the movie, go see it, then come back to The Outhouse and read this.*
With Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy sequel confirmed, fans of the movie may be wondering what's next for the ragtag gang. Director James Gunn already has some ideas for what we'll see next though they are not set in stone:
" Well, you know, there are general ideas for what the sequel is and where it goes and who’s involved and what happens and what we find out about our characters. So it’s very general and that could change."
"… I know a lot about who these characters are and where they came from and where they’re going."
One of the directions that Gunn may be exploring, is the mystery of Star-Lord's (Peter Quill) origin. In Guardians, the identity of Star-Lord's father was somewhat mysterious. Quill's mothter called him "an angel" and seemed to think he would come back for him. The Ravagers thought he was a "jackass". Nova Prime said that Quill was half terran, while the other half was something very ancient that they haven't seen before. So will we be seeing Emperor Jason/J'Son Peter Quill's father, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? Let's ask James Gunn!
"It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I’ll say that much."
Guess not. That's not that unusual though as the Marvel Cinematic Universe deviates from the Marvel "616" in significant ways (and to be fair, even Star-Lord's origin in the comics changed three or four times). That revelation leads to yet another question, is Star-Lord's father a character from the comics? Some clues are there, what do you readers think?
Well we'll have some time to guess at it, so post your ideas in the comments! Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (working title) opens in theaters July 28, 2017.
