In case you missed the front page banner, or our various social media tweets, Nix Comics, a Columbus, OH comics company run by Ken Eppstein, is running a month long sale with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Hero Initiative on behalf of Kirby4Heroes. Nix Comics is a fantastic company worthy of your support, and I'm not just saying that because he's sponsoring the Outhouse this week to help promote his current sale/fundraising campaign.
If you have a little extra cash to spend on cool independent comics, please check out the sale here.
And if you need some extra convincing, here's Ken's words on the subject:
I’m gearing up to make my annual donation to the Kirby4Heroes campaign, an annual fund drive held in honor of Jack Kirby’s birthday by his granddaughter Jillian Kirby. (The campaign ends on Kirby’s birthday, August 28th. The King would’ve been 97 this year!) This year Kirby4Heroes would like to raise $15K to benefit the Hero Initiative, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work.
Like a lot of you, I don’t have a whole lot of money. Right now, my plan is to kick in the same small donation I made last year. I’d like to recruit the friends and fans of Nix Comics to help me make my donation this year a little more special.
- For every comic book bought on the website this August, I will add $1 to the donation I had already planned on making.
- If that number of comics reaches 97, I’ll kick in $1.50 per comic.
- Shops can get on the action too! For every wholesale copy of Nix Comics sold, I will add $0.50 to my donation.
And hey… Its’ not all about me! If you want to just click away and donate to the Hero Initiative in Kirby’s name, cutting me out of the equation, my feelings won’t be hurt.
