ABC has cast its Mockingbird. Adrianne Palicki, best known for her starring role on Friday Night Lights, has been cast as Agent Bobbi Morse in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. She'll first appear in this season's fifth episode, with "potential to return" according to THR's casting report.
This marks the third time that Palicki has been cast in a comic book television show. She previously was cast in the starring role on David E. Kelley's failed Wonder Woman pilot, and as a villain in CW's failed Aquaman pilot. She also starred in GI Joe: Retaliation as Lady Jaye, so she's got plenty of "geek cred", as if that were remotely necessary to star in a comic book TV show (spoiler: it's not). Her brother, Eric, is a comic book writer, and recently launched a Kickstarter for his latest graphic novel, which you should all check out and support.
I'd make a mean comment about her arrival on the show all but guaranteeing Agent of SHIELD's cancellation due to the fates of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, but that would be unfair to her since she's a pretty great actress and both of those TV show pilots were DOA anyways. Honestly, Palicki joins a list of pretty great guest stars on Agents of SHIELD, all of whom are way too good to be connected to this mediocre superhero show, who couldn't piece together a real plot until it became a tie-in to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hopefully, Palicki will help make the show's second season better than the first one, which isn't that tall of a task because...well, the first season wasn't very good.
