This follows the proud tradition of casting other white dudes as Ra's al Ghul.
Stephen Amell announced on his Facebook page that Matt Nable, an Australian actor best known for his role in the 2013 movie Riddick, has been cast as Ra's Al Ghul in Arrow. Nable has appeared in a number of Australian roles, but his American credits are few and far between. Prior to starting his acting career, Nable was a professional rugby player.
Nable is the second white actor to portray Ra's Al Ghul, after Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. Why CW couldn't cast an ethnic actor to play an ethnic character is beyond me, but hey, at least they're keeping the grand tradition of having Australians play major DC villains. Manu Bennett, who plays Slade Wilson on Arrow, is Australian, although he was born in New Zealand.
Arrow's third season will begin in October.
