Discovery Takes Charge of the Hub Network

Hasbro has given Discovery Communications a controlling share of the Hub; they will rework the channel to focus more on family entertainment instead of those damn cursed ponies!!!!!

Well it looks like Deadline's theory of a rebrand some months ago when Hub president Margaret Loesch stepped down from the position turned out to be true. Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Hasbro has sold a good chunk of its interest of the Hub back to Discovery Communications (aka the folks who used to run the channel and run the Discovery Channel). The results of this action will leave Hasbro with a smaller stake in the network and control of six hours of programing from 9 am to 3 pm.

Not surprisingly, the channel will more than likely be renamed/rebranded into Discovery Family. All these changes are expected to occur with the earliest outcome happening later this year. This will no doubt gut most of the programing on the network currently.

This also calls into question how Hasbro will air it's latest Transformer animated program, Transformers: Robots in Disguise under the new changes. If this does cause trouble for that particular series, this reporter will consider it a necessary sacrifice for THE GREATER GOOD. For this move will truly mark the death knell to cute pony programing everywhere. Yes, death to the ponies!!!! DEATH TO THEM ALL!!!

*ahem*

Sorry, I really hate, HATE that series all thanks to my fellow staffers here. I pray for the demise of this show every day and any possibly of the utter destruction of the franchise. I WELCOME IT!!!

[Editor's note: You're out of luck, Zechs. If any show survives, it'll be that one. Your secret pony love can continue.]

Sadly, this does mean the end of the experimental channel, which began in 2010 and brought back old episodes of classic 80s cartoons such as Transformers and G.I. Joe while rebranding them into new programs: Transformers: Prime and G.I. Joe: Renegades. The network also got A TON of Batman-related media as well, airing Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and the 60s live-action Batman series.

Whatever further changes the Hub undergoes, we'll keep you updated.
