*** WARNING! Spoilers for this week's Amazing Spider-Man #12 ahead! ***

For those of you that have read this week's installment of Amazing Spider-Man, you may have caught a glimpse of a somewhat obscure, but cult favorite version of Spider-Man, the Japanese Spider-Man from Toei's live-action 1978 television series and his giant robot companion.

For those not familiar with Toei's Spider-Man, he is not the same as the USA version you know and love. This Spider-Man has a different origin. 22-year old motocross racer Takuya Yamashiro was granted super powers by the dying alien Garia, and continues the extraterrestrial's battle against Professor Monster and his evil Iron Cross Army. With alien blood flowing through his body, Yamashiro has special spider senses and the ability to don the Spider Protector (the Spidey suit) contained within his Spider Bracelet which also gives him the ability to shoot spider fluid. He also has a spaceship named Marveller and a flying car, theSpider Machine GP-7. Of course the other star of Toei's Spider-Man is Leopardon, Spider-Man's giant lion (!) robot, which helps him battle his super-sized enemies.

It might be worth nothing that Toei's Spider-Man was part of a partnership with Marvel way back when and Marvel somewhat inspiried the formation the Super Sentai fad (super task force, what they call Power Rangers-like teams in Japan) that started with Battle Fever J. The whole enemies-get-defeated-then-turned-giant-then-the-heroes-use-a-giant-robot-to-fight-them formula started with Spider-Man, then were adopted into Super Sentai. Pre-Super Sentail (Goranger, JAKQ) had vehicles and super weapons, but lacked the robots.

Here's some of Spider-Man from Earth-511778 from Amazing Spider-Man #12:

And if that was not enough for you, Marvel has posted a trailer of the original Japanese Spider-Man:

And the pilot episode!

And finally you can discover for yourself the power of the Spider-Man Boogie!

New episodes will appear on marvel.com each Thursday (the original Japanese run had 41 episodes and 1 movie).
