At a bizarre press conference this morning, Marvel Comics Editor in Chief Axel Alonso and Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada announced that the company would produce variant covers for Howard The Duck #2 and Deadpool #250 by Mahmud Asrar and Skottie Young respectively themed after the hip hop duo Run The Jewels. The comics executives conveyed their excitement for the covers by busting out into freestyle rap verses in front of the stunned crowd.
"My name's Joe Q and I'm here to say, I got rap genes in my DNA!" the fifty-three year old Quesada rapped, jumping around the stage and flailing his arms wildly. "Let me just take a moment to wag my tongue, about these variant covers from Asrar and Young!"
"Yeeaaahhh!" Alonso added, helpfully, folding his arms and leaning back menacingly.
Quesada went on, in rhyme, to tell assembled reporters that the variants would ship in April and be available for order with retailer incentives before passing the mic to Alonso.
"Yo yo yo!" Alonso chimed in. "The names Alonso, that's spelled with an 'onso.' Ya better preorder before the books are all goneso!"
"Word is bond!" Quesada insisted. "They're gonna sell out!"
While the pair of execs went on and on, freestyle rapping for a full ten minutes, a projector displayed the variant covers, which you can view below. Look for them in shops in April. Run the Jewels will be at Madison Square Garden with Jack White on January 30th.
