This one comes via actual comics journalist and bony saltwater fish Tom Spurgeon. Diplo, for those of you who, like me, have no clue who he is, is apparently a grammy award winning DJ who, fellow reporter ThanosCopter informed me, "makes the beat drop," found himself involved in a Twitter scandal after using the art of Rebecca Mock without her permission. Here's the original post:
Apparently, the animated gif used to accompany the music belonged to Mock, who called Diplo out on Twitter:
Diplo, who's Twiiter name is currently "Giflo," referencing this event, attempted to play it off:
However, when that didn't work, he resorted to this (the tweet was deleted, presumably after some handler realized Diplo was comitting career suicide via misogyny, so we're relying on a screenshot captured by @BATHSmusic):
Needless to say, that didn't go over well, and even resulted in a fight between Diplo and Geoff Barrow of Portishead (hey, I know who they are!!!). As far as I can tell, it's still going on. As of noon today, he was still being a dick about it (bonus, his fans also appear to be dicks):
For more entertainment, head over to /r/comicbooks to watch enraged Diplo fans attempt to justify or blow off the incident and then get pissed off by ensuing downvotes. The moral of this story? Mock summed it up nicely when she said, "My work isn't your clip art dude. don't sample my gif."
Check out Rebecca Mock's website here. If the short music clip in that first video is any indication, don't bother tracking down anything from Dildo. Where was Kanye* when this dude was winning his award?!
*I know who Kanye is.
