Tom Rothman is your new Sony Pictures head, replacing Amy Pascal, who stepped down a few weeks ago. Right after that, it was announced that Sony and Disney would be partnering up to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Movie Universe. Well, this latest move might prove to be a future monkeywrench being thrown into the well oiled Marvel Movie Machine.
Daredevil, Fantastic Four, and X-Men fans should well remember this name, as he was the former Fox head honcho when their original movies were released. He's also the man who fast-tracked X3: The Last Stand (2006), forcing Bryan Singer to leave the franchise (until last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past), and brought in Brett Ratner as his replacement.
We all know how that went. Let's bring up these bad memories via Cinema Sins shall we?
He's also the one who kicked off the X-Men prequel movies, and well we may all try and repress X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), it still exists. REMEMBER IT!! REMEMBER IT!!
Elektra (2005)?That was on his watch too. Plus the original two Fantastic Four movies (I've already made you scream for me to stop posting videos or linking you to these bad movies. I'll show you the reader some extent of mercy).
If there's a reason why Marvel and Fox are currently in hate/hate relationship, Rothman laid the groundwork for that all in his tenure when at Fox. Now he's at Sony, who are now getting cozy with Marvel/Disney. This is going to be an interesting next few years to see if Rothman has learned from his mistakes, or we'll be actually wishing for a return to the glory days of Amazing Spider-Man 2 compared to whatever cinematic attrocity we'll be getting approved via him.
