In what appears to be a December 2014 blog post in Spanish (no hablo español) from Disney Latino, general manager and President of Pixar Animation Studios Jim Morris may have revealed a slight change in the direction for Toy Story 4.
In November 2014's earnings call where Toy Story 4 was announced, it indicated that tale would pick up from Toy Story 3. Well, it may be a clarification or a change, but Morris says "It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. Temporarily [sic] it is…" So, it appears to be taking place after the events of Toy Story 3, but will take things in a new direction:
"It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued."
It was mentioned in its announcement that Toy Story 4 would be a love story and Morris reconfirms this:
"It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children."
In a bold prediction, he also says, "I think it will be a very good movie."
Toy Story has continued post-Andy in television specials such as "Toy Story of Terror" and "Toy Story That Time Forgot". Will Jessie and Buzz find true love? Will we find out what happened to Bo Peep? Will Woody discover the love doll under the bed? We'll find out on June 16, 2017 when the toy box is reopened in theaters.
