Well, it looks like those rumors might have been true. During the whole Sony email hack debacle, it came to light that Anthony and Joe Russo, better known as the Russo Brothers, were under consideration for the two Avengers: Infinity War movies. When Joss Whedon expressed doubt about doing the next Avengers movies, many eyes again turned to the Russo Brothers as possible directors for these movies.
However, more recently the Russo Brothers signed a 3-year "first look" deal with Sony and have been attached to a male-incarnation Ghostbusters reboot, so the future with Avengers looked a bit cloudy.
Now, word on the street is saying that the Russo Brothers will indeed be directing Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Avengers: Infinity War Part II. The brothers previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are currently working on Captain America: Civil War (due May 6, 2016). So we'll be getting 3 Marvel war films from them. It's being said that Infinity War parts I & II will shoot continuously, back-to-back.
With the brothers now on Avengers, will we have to wait longer for Ghostbusters? Guess that is news for another day.
Avengers: Infinity War Part I is due in theaters May 4, 2018, with Part II hitting screens on May 3, 2019.
