Suing Season Continues! Toho Sues Voltage Pictures' 'Colossal' for their Blatant Godzilla-like Kaiju!!

Toho gets in on the lawsuit action as they take aim at a Voltage Pictures kaiju movie starring Anne Hathaway for being a bit too much like their famous kaiju, Godzilla.

So, a company that's famous for men in monster suits will now do battle in court with lawsuits. Sadly, courtrooms will not be destroyed, and sadly, we cannot use cloning to get Raymond Burr to reprise his role as Perry Mason while also appearing as Steve Martin.

Earlier this week we had DC Comics decide to challenge singer Rihanna over the name Robyn (since the singer filed for the trademark of said name and DC took issue with it). Now, Toho, the Japanese Movie Studio famous for a certain kaiju named Godzilla is getting on the lawsuit action. Why? Over what they deem as copyright infringement against Voltage Pictures' Kaiju film Colossal (which stars Anne Hathaway). Voltage is trying to sell the movie at the Cannes Film Festival currently.

Toho presented their case via court documents (which you can find at Deadline - unlike other sites, we do cite our sources. Pip Pip). And well, given the pictures in the suit, it stands to reason Toho might have a case, as Godzilla looked like this in his 2014 movie:

Then compare it to the giant kaiju that Colossal is hyping via promotional material:

The hell?! That's the same damn image this reporter just posted above in a ten second search on Google. Even the "promo" poster I swear looks like something I've seen via the posters for the actual 2014 film of Godzilla. Oh wait.. I HAVE!! They just took it from this:

Yeah... you can clearly see where Tohowould think, "Um that's kind of Godzilla there. We kind of own that property. You really aren't even trying to hide it." Though now I'm starting to wonder if Anne Hathaway is even really involved with this movie, or if they've just taken parts of other Anne Hathaway movies pasted them into it. Or maybe they have a poorly dubbed cardboard cut-out of her in every scene. Yeah this suit seems pretty cut and dry. Whatever, happens we'll keep you updated.
