Convergence #8 Reveals Final Fate of DC Multiverse (SPOILERS)

If you haven't read the final issue of Convergence, you might want to hold off on this one...

Since the announcement of DC Comics' Convergence super-mega-crossover event, fans have speculated that the event could mark the return of previously-erased DC Comics continuity from before the 2011 Nu 52 reboot, if not as part of the mainstream DCU, at least as part of a multiverse. With the release of the final issue of Scott Lobdell and Jeff King's masterpiece, the fate of the multiverse has been settled. According to a report from Eisner Award winning website Comic Book Resources:

When the series' final issue concludes, not only does the Multiverse remain in existence, major changes have been made to the grandaddy of all company-wide continuity-shifting events, "Crisis on Infinite Earths." As Brainiac prepares to save all of reality by transporting the heroes he had previously trapped on his patchwork world to their own realities, the über-powerful villain includes Parallax among those he sends back to face the original Crisis.

Accompanying a brief play-by-play from Telos -- the humanoid incarnation of the planet the heroes are trapped on -- which states, "Reality is resetting, stabilizing. Each world has evolved, but they all exist," we're treated to pair of two-page splashes, displaying over a dozen of the different Earths that have been saved -- including several erased by "Crisis" in 1986.

Fans reading up to that point may have experienced a long-awaited feeling of joy and relief after years of abuse from Dan Didio's despotic regime. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse, as the DC Comics Multiverse then boarded a small boat and sailed directly into a hurricane as the page faded to black. Then, in a shocking epilogue, the DC Multiverse is shown driving a log truck in Oregon. The DC Multiverse has faked its own death and become a lumberjack.

Sorry, DC fans. Looks like you got screwed again.
