Source: EXCLUSIVE: Archie Action's Mega Man #53 Solicitation Reveals The End of the Series

COME ON!!!

One of the greatest little nuggets this reporter has been enjoying for the past few years has been Archie Comics' Mega Man series (based on the popular Capcom video games). The various artists who worked on it and writer Ian Flynn crafted a fun world that had so many darn Easter Eggs from the games to the various music that was inspired from the video games (the pre-Worlds Unite crossover issue,  Mega Man #49 was amazing and you should hunt it down). Well, it appears all good things must end, and so the series will be going into a hiatus with #55, with the final arc kicking up with #53.

Comicbook.com confirmed the news today with an interview with Archie Action editor Vincent Lovallo. Lovella stresses this is a short hiatus (hopefully they don't pull the cord like Capcom did with their infamous "hiatus" of Mega Man games in the past):

We are currently wrapping up the "Worlds Unite" crossover, which ties into our Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe and Sonic Boom comic series. We'll only be scratching the surface of the next major Mega Man storyline after that, we figured now is the right time before we dive deep into that plot.

Keep in mind in two years is the franchise's thirty year anniversary and we already know a new cartoon is in the works to be part of that. Will the relaunched comic be one too? But that so wouldn't be a "short" hiatus.

We'll keep you updated until then. Here's the solicitation and covers for #53 (also covered by Comicbook.com):

MEGA MAN #53

The BLUE BOMBER is BACK from the events of "Worlds Unite" and is ready to fight for justice! That's all well and good, if there was actually someone to fight! In "Blue Shift," peace has finally come to Mega Man's life—but is that a bad thing? Could it be possible that our super fighting robot has come to actually love the battles he was once so opposed to? Meanwhile, Dr. Wily plots something sinister from the shadows, reaching an even newer low for the mad doctor! It's an extended curtain call as we come to the end of the Mega Man series! Featuring cover art from Jason Piperberg and a BOT UNDER FIRE variant from superstar Thomas Pitilli!

Script: Ian Flynn
