Anime Matsuri Showrunner Allegedly Total Creep

John Leigh was accused of multiple instances of ongoing sexual harassment.

The Beat has an in depth article up talking about the sexual harassment allegations against John Leigh, the showrunner of the anime convention Anime Matsuri. The convention is heavily cosplay-focused, particularly on the genre of "Lolita" fashion, which apparently means dressing up in elaborate Victorian era themed clothing. I'm not really familiar with anime or its cosplaying genres, so maybe some of our commenters can add more about that.

According to several reports, Leigh has allegedly been using his position to harass women who attend the con by making unwanted sexual jokes, inappropriate touching, requesting nude photos, and even, in one case, inviting a cosplayer to a photoshoot under false pretenses and then trying to get her to make a video simulating oral sex in a car.

Heidi MacDonald classifies Leigh's behavior as follows:

All of the behavior reported by Leigh falls into what's known as a "sex pest" — a creepy guy who uses his position and proximity to women to engage in inappropriate behavior which is often "forgiven" as "just joking."

In response to the allegations, Leigh originally posted an angry blog post, but later deleted it and apologized. It's unclear (to me at least) whether Leigh's alleged harassment was limited to Lolita cosplayers, or other genres of attendees.

It would be redundant for me to re-summarize everything since Heidi already did a great job of that, but I also wanted to make sure the signal got boosted on this one, so head over to The Beat and read all the details.
