Star Wars: Episode IX Director, Rogue One Cast, Parks

Bunch of news from D23 Expo 2015

There was a bunch of news for Star Wars fans at D23 Expo 2015's "Worlds, Galaxies, and Universes: Live Action at The Walt Disney Studios" presentation. Here are some highlights:

The director for Star Wars: Episode IX has been announced, and it sounds like Lucasfilm wants to stomp the competition. As rumored, Colin Trevorrow will be directing IX, and if that name sounds familiar, he's the director of this year's gigantic Jurassic World. Episode IX will end the next trilogy that starts with Star Wars: The Force Awakens this year, and continues with the Rian Johnson directing Episode VIII.

The cast for the Star Wars Anthology film (now being labeled "A Star Wars Story") Rogue One has also been announced and principal photography has begun on the film. Felicity Jones was already known to be in the film, but she will be joined by Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk (who will be a performance-capture character), and Riz Ahmed.

Rogue One, the story of the resistance fighters who fought to capture the Death Star plans invades theaters December 16, 2016.

Well it isn't Jurassic World, but there will be not one, but two Star Wars themed lands coming to Disney Parks. One will be at Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and the other at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Each will be 14 acres and take visitors to a planet just on the edge of wild space. There will be two attractions, one in which you can helm the Millenium Falcon, the other puts you in the middle of a cinematic battle. No openning date was announced for the parks.
