Twitter Shuts Down Sites Archiving Deleted Tweets; Comics Pros Breathe Sigh of Relief

Finally, thinking before you say something is no longer necessary!

According to a report on The Verge, Twitter has suspended the API access of sites that archive the deleted tweets of politicians, setting a precedent that comes as a relief to comic book professionals, who frequently find themselves the subject of social media outrage after saying dumb things on the social media platform. According to the report, Twitter called deleting tweets an expression of a user's voice, asking, "Imagine how nerve-racking — terrifying, even — tweeting would be if it was immutable and irrevocable?"

"Tell me about it!" said full time controversial tweeter and part time Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott. "On average, I delete 3.5 tweets per hour after getting into a lopsided feud with a fan with a couple hundred followers and saying mean things to them because I can't help vanity searching my own name and attacking anyone who isn't overly positive about my work. Imagine if those tweets were available forever? I might look like even more of a jerk than I already do!" Slott then had to excuse himself from our interview because a reader with six followers tweeted that Slott's Silver Surfer run failed to maintain the same quality as the first arc, and he needed to say something really nasty to them in front of his 80,000 followers before blocking them so he doesn't have to read their response.

Not everyone is happy, however. The news has sent shockwaves throughout the comic book media, which garners approximately 30% of its unique pageviews from taking screenshots of the latest Twitter battles between angry comic book industry personalities. "Oi, they're cuttin' into me livelihood, they are!" complained lead rumormonger for popular tabloid site Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston. "'Ow am Oi gonna survive if Oi can't post the latest Fanboy Rampage? Oi'll be phased out for that guy who writes all the video game articles, oi will!"

Sorry, Uncle Rich. That's already happening.

The Outhouse is just glad that private figures such as politicians will now have the ability to pretend they never said something rather than having to take time out of their busy schedules to think about what they're going to say before they say it, and we hope that privilege is extended to liars everywhere. I mean, you should have seen what we said about Twitter in the first draft of this article. Oof! We would have been in the doghouse for sure.
