Apocalypse Back to Canceled!! 'Pacific Rim 2' Still Happening! 2017 Release Date Probably Pushed Back

Apocalypse is canceled! However, fans of the series might have to wait a bit longer for more Jaegers vs. Kaiju action.

Source: Guillermo Del Toro is still working on Pacific Rim 2

Earlier this week, the screams of many (including this reporter) were heard crying in agony when word got out that Pacific Rim: Maelstrom was put on indefinite hold and might never be made (all due to Legendary Pictures attempting to create a shared universe with Godzilla and King Kong to stage the long-awaited rematch between the two titans).

Well, the film's director Guillermo Del Toro has heard your pleas for an answer and he has given it.. to Entertainment Weekly:

We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I'm concerned, it's not gone. We're still on it.

But, Del Toro did confirm that there would be a delay in production and that the original April 2017 release date is now probably not going to happen. He even went on to say the delay would mean, "I may do another movie in the middle."

Does this mean it'll be delayed into 2018 or longer (2019)? Del Toro has a new movie coming out next month in Crimson Peak. Still, even EW states Del Toro isn't a stranger to long delayed projects, but at the very least Pacific Rim 2 isn't Hellboy 3. It sounds much further ahead. Still, Del Toro joked about the situation:

I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy 3, Pacific Rim 2, and At the Mountains of Madness. And I would quickly become a millionaire.
